More Is Not Better

Something that has been living rent free in my head lately is the more is better mentality.

Let’s talk about this.

What I mean by more is better is if a 60 minute strength session helps me get stronger. Then 90 or even 120 minutes will push me even further.

I wish I knew how this mentality came to be. Pretty sure it has to deal with the calories out vs calories in saying.

But…

More is better is very rarely the answer.

Actually, the “more is better” mentality can get you in a lot of trouble when it comes to fitness.

It can and will lead to poor recovery (when the magic actually happens) which can lead to injury.

In the long run, you won’t reach your goals.

Stop trying to do more.

Ideally you want 30 minutes of activity everyday.

The simple breakdown of your activity is like this.

3 days of strength training.

4 days of active recovery… a 30 minute walk.

If you find yourself suffering from this mentality, take a moment and write down your thoughts and slow it down.
