I Need to Eat THAT Many Calories?

I Need to Eat THAT Many Calories?

A conversation that I have quite often with the members or our gym is how many calories they should be eating in a day.

The typical response I receive after telling the number is “Are you sure I need THAT many?”.

I understand the concern.

We live in a world that we are told calories in vs calories out is the only way to lose weight.

This is correct.

However,

A lot of us will eat as little as possible.

This will lead to even bigger problems in the long run.

I am sure that you will gain weight  if you eat too many calories.

What happens if you eat too few?

You will be very unlikely to get in the proper amount of nutrients that regulate how efficiently your body works.

This will cause even more problems like feeling lethargic and a lack of deep sleep.

You will also be unable to lose or even keep weight off.

If you do not eat enough calories everyday your body will in a sense go into a starvation mode and will start to try and hold on to everything you eat.

Don’t get me wrong, you will lose weight, this is because you are eating way too little calories.

When you do start to eat a regular diet again your body will just pack on the body fat.

Then you go back to eating too little to start the whole process over again.

Instead of trying to go into a giant deficit of calories, a healthier way is to think about how you feel and are you losing 0.5-1 lbs of weight every week.

Quick results only get you hurt. When it comes to weight loss, play the long game.
