How much protein should I eat?


You need to eat a lot of protein.

This seems to be the big buzz when talking about health and wellness.

Coach Katie and I were having a conversation about protein this morning.

Eating a lot of protein is something that has been talked about within the fitness industry for longer than I have been a fitness professional. I’ve been a trainer for 13 years.

That’s a long time to be talking about one thing and it is just now hitting the big market.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. We are happy it is finally hitting the masses.

The question I am not seeing the answer for is how much protein should you be eating?

Let’s take this a step further and look at why we picked this number.


The answer to how much you should be eating is your goal weight in grams of protein.

So.

If your goal weight is 150 lbs, you need to eat 150 grams of protein everyday.


Why this number?


You need at least 0.8 to 1.2 grams of protein per pound of lean mass.

For that we will need to know how much lean mass you have on your body.

Lean mass is everything that makes up your body except for your body fat.

Unless you have had a test to get this done, we do not know your lean mass.


As you know.

Here at Best Life Fitness we like to keep things as simple as possible.

Goal weight in grams of protein is an easy number for you to understand.

And this daily goal gets you somewhere between 0.8 to 1.2 grams of protein.

Or at least close enough.


It is everywhere that you need to eat more protein.

No one is telling you how much.

Keep it simple. Shoot for your goal body weight in grams of protein.

This is a simple number to find and it will keep within the recommended daily allowance.
