Tips for Thanksgiving

Tomorrow is my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.

First, I want to wish you and your family a fantastic and enjoyable holiday filled with all your favorite foods.

That’s right, I said it, ALL your favorite foods. Indulging for one day won't derail your overall health or fitness progress. But here are a few strategies to keep things in check so you can savor the feast without overdoing it to the point of discomfort and regret.

1. Slow Down. One of the most powerful tools at our disposal to manage calorie intake is to eat slowly, though it's one that many of us forget. Consider all the time and effort that went into preparing the Thanksgiving meal and dedicate that same care to savoring it. By eating slowly, you'll naturally consume less, relish the flavors more, and feel satisfied without being overly stuffed when you finish.

2. Don't Starve. Regardless of what time your Thanksgiving meal is served, it's important not to skip meals in the hours leading up to it. If you're having your feast around mid-day, don't skip breakfast. If it's a dinner affair, have breakfast and a light lunch. Going without food throughout the day can lead to overindulging at dinner.

3. Fruits & Veggies: If you plan to snack throughout the day, prioritize fruits and vegetables. They're not only hydrating (which can help counterbalance any alcoholic beverages you may enjoy) but also rich in fiber to help regulate your blood sugar levels and curb your appetite.

Remember, there's no need to avoid all your favorite dishes on Thanksgiving. Simply follow these straightforward tips to ensure you fully enjoy the day without overdoing it.
