You Don't Have to Love Exercise
Here's something I wish more people felt comfortable saying:
"I don't really like exercising."
That's okay.
Some people genuinely love working out. They enjoy lifting weights, running, taking classes, or spending time in a gym.
Other people don't.
That doesn't mean they're incapable of being healthy.
We sometimes make exercise unnecessarily complicated because we assume there is a particular way we're supposed to move. If we don't enjoy that version of exercise, we decide we're simply not "exercise people."
Movement is much bigger than the traditional idea of a workout.
Maybe you enjoy walking because it gives you time to clear your head. Maybe you like gardening because you lose track of time while you're outside. Maybe you enjoy biking with your family, swimming, dancing, playing pickleball, or taking your dog for a long walk.
Those activities may not look like a traditional workout, but your body doesn't care whether something was labeled "exercise."
It benefits from movement.
I think enjoyment matters more than we sometimes admit.
If you find an activity you genuinely like, you're much more likely to keep doing it. And something you continue doing will always have more value than the perfect workout you dread so much that you eventually stop.
This weekend, instead of asking yourself what workout you're supposed to do, ask yourself a different question:
"How would I actually enjoy moving today?"
Maybe the answer is a walk.
Maybe it's playing outside with your family.
Maybe it's trying something you've never done before.
There doesn't need to be a calorie goal attached to it.
You don't need to finish exhausted.
You just need to move in a way that feels good and fits your life.
That's fitness too.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Adam
