You Don't Have to Make Every Minute Productive
Fall has officially arrived, and for many of us that means life is getting busy again.
Schedules fill up. Activities return. Work picks up. There are places to be and things to accomplish.
And somewhere along the way, we can start believing that every available minute needs to be productive.
But productivity and health aren't always the same thing.
Sometimes sitting outside for twenty minutes isn't productive.
Taking a walk without listening to a podcast isn't productive.
Having a long conversation with someone you care about isn't productive.
Going to bed instead of finishing one more task certainly doesn't feel productive.
But those things can still be good for you.
We've become very good at measuring what we accomplish and not nearly as good at recognizing the value of simply being present.
Your body needs recovery. Your mind needs quiet. Your relationships need attention. Your life needs moments that aren't being optimized for anything.
That's not laziness.
It's part of being human.
So as fall schedules become busier, don't just look at your calendar and ask where you can fit in your workouts. Look at whether you've left yourself any room to breathe.
You don't need to fill every empty space.
Sometimes the empty space is exactly what allows you to show up better for everything else.
A healthy life isn't one where every minute is productive.
It's one where there is room for work, movement, rest, relationships, and enjoyment.
That's a much more sustainable goal.
Have a great week,
Adam
