What Does Your Body Need Right Now?
There is something useful about asking a slightly different question when it comes to health.
Instead of asking, “What should I be doing?” try asking, “What does my body need right now?”
Those two questions can lead you in very different directions.
Sometimes your body needs movement. Sometimes it needs food. Sometimes it needs sleep. Sometimes it needs a break from sitting at your desk. Sometimes it needs a little fresh air or a conversation with someone you enjoy. And sometimes it needs you to recognize that you've been asking a lot of yourself lately.
We tend to think of health as a list of things we should accomplish. Get your workout in. Drink enough water. Eat well. Get enough sleep. Hit your steps. Stretch. Strength train. The list can become endless.
But your body doesn't experience health as a checklist. It experiences your actual life.
That means paying attention to what is happening can be just as valuable as following a plan.
Maybe you've noticed that you're more tired when you stay up late several nights in a row. Maybe your back feels better when you get up and move throughout the day. Maybe you're hungrier on the days you're more active. Maybe your mood improves when you spend time outside.
These observations aren't failures or problems to solve. They're information.
And the more familiar you become with your own patterns, the easier it can be to make choices that actually fit your life.
This week, consider pausing once or twice during the day and asking yourself a simple question: What would support me right now?
The answer doesn't have to be complicated.
Sometimes the healthiest choice is surprisingly ordinary.
