Injuries, they happen.
Everyone at some point in their life will get hurt.
Some injuries may take us out for a while.
Look, as a personal trainer I hear people say all the time that they can stop or slow down.
Here’s the thing.
You can either take a week, maybe 2 off to let that muscle group heal.
Or
You can work through the pain and possibly make the injury worse and be out for way longer than 2 weeks.
The choice is yours.
Just understand you could take yourself out of the game for way longer.
What should you do if you have an injury?
If it is a sharp pain. You will need to avoid movements that make that area hurt.
If you continue to move the affected area this could cause more damage, sometimes damage that is not reversible.
This does not mean sitting at home and doing nothing.
This will cause the injury to stick around longer.
Go to the gym and tell your coach that you have an injury. Then let them worry about it.
It’s their job to help you, let your coaches help you.
We are here to help you.
The next time you have an injury.
Assess what is going on. Ask, is it a dull or sharp pain?
Then the next time you are at the gym talk to a coach about your next steps.
Let’s talk about injuries and what you should not do when you are hurting.
Look, injuries happen, it’s life.
The problem is a lot of us, myself included, we think we can work through the pain.
Guess what!?
You can’t.
“Working through the pain” is a recipe for disaster.
The next time you have an injury you need to do 2 things.
If it hurts, don't do it.
If what you are doing is causing pain then continuing to do that thing could be making it worse.
Your best bet, tell your coach and let them worry about it.
If your pain doesn't go away, seek professional help.
I get it, you are already seeing us at Best Life. However some things are outside of our scope of practice.
When we suggest you go see someone else, you should take that advice.
Ok, the next time you have an injury, don’t be stupid and think you can work through it. Give it some rest. If it doesn’t go away with some rest, seek help.
If you do have an injury, make sure you let us know.
